How to Write a Press Release for an Event Announcement (Free Template + Example)
A good press release for an event announcement answers who, what, when, where and why in the first sentence, then backs it up with facts and a quote. Copy the template below, or have us write and distribute it.
Template
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE [Event] Returns to [City] on [Date] with [Headline Attraction] [Subheadline: one sentence with your key number or benefit] [CITY], [State] – [Organizer] announced [event], taking place [dates] at [venue], featuring [headliners] and expected to draw [attendance]. [Paragraph 2: context and why it matters now. Include one hard number.] "[Quote that adds opinion or emotion, not facts already stated]," said [Name], [Title] of [Company]. [Paragraph 3: details, availability, price, date, how to learn more, URL.] About [Company] [50–80 word boilerplate.] Media Contact [Name] · [email] · [phone] ###
Tips
- Lead with the biggest headliner or attraction.
- Include an early-bird deadline to create urgency.
- Give attendance numbers from previous years.
- Include a media accreditation contact.
- Keep it to 300–500 words, in AP style, with no hype words like "revolutionary."
